My drawings don’t show up in the screen share

You are almost certainly sharing a window instead of the whole screen. Stop the share, start it again, and pick the entire screen or desktop.

Cue Canvas draws in its own window on top of yours. A window share sends only that one window’s contents, so the overlay is left out. Sharing the whole screen includes everything. See Using Cue Canvas on a call.

I granted a permission and it still doesn’t work

Quit Cue Canvas and open it again. macOS only applies a new permission to a freshly launched copy of an app, not to one that is already running. This catches everyone once.

Which permissions do I actually need?

PermissionWhat stops working without it
Screen RecordingZoom, the magnifier, screenshots and region capture
AccessibilityThe text tool, the keystroke display

Drawing, the cursor highlight and the spotlight need neither. You can use Cue Canvas for annotation without granting anything.

The keyboard shortcuts do nothing

Check you are actually annotating. Press Shift+Cmd+D. Most shortcuts (the tool keys, undo, the colour keys) are deliberately only live while the overlay is up, so they do not swallow those keys from every other app on your Mac while you are working normally.

If a specific shortcut does nothing while the overlay is up, another app probably owns that combination. Open Settings → Shortcuts and record a different one.

My drawing is on the wrong screen

Each display has its own overlay and its own drawings. Drawings stay on the display they were drawn on, including after you rearrange displays or unplug one and plug it back in.

If a drawing looks offset rather than misplaced, tell us which displays you have and at what scaling. That is a bug, not a setting.

Undo brought back something I didn’t expect

Undo is per display, for the same reason drawings are. Undoing on your laptop screen will not remove something on the projector; move the pointer to that display first.

The overlay is covering something I need to click

Press Shift+Cmd+A. Your drawings stay visible and clicks pass through to the app underneath. The pointer returns to the ordinary arrow so you can tell which mode you are in.

A shape turned into a circle and I didn’t want that

Turn off shape beautification in Settings. It is off by default, so somebody turned it on.

If it happens again before you get there: undo once. That removes the tidy shape and gives you back the stroke exactly as you drew it.

Text won’t type

The text tool needs Accessibility. Grant it and restart Cue Canvas.

While you are typing, the keystrokes go to Cue Canvas and nowhere else. That is deliberate, so typing a label cannot leak into the app behind. Press Esc to finish.

It’s slow, or the ink lags behind the pointer

Tell us. Ink latency is the number this project measures most carefully, and lag is a bug rather than something to work around. Include your Mac model, macOS version, how many displays, and whether you were screen sharing.
